STOP NUCLEAR ARMS !

Sign the petition for a worldwide ban on nuclear arms

I, the undersigned,

Convinced that the very existence of nuclear arms is an abiding threat to the human race;

Mindful of the fact that the use of nuclear arms would always be in flagrant contradiction to basic human rights and, more particularly, to the essential standards of the rules of armed conflict and humanitarian law;

Seeing that the balance of power throughout the world has shifted such as gradually to erode the obsolescent theory of any deterrent based on "terror for terror, in equal measure";

Disturbed by the proliferation of nuclear arms and certain that nothing less than a total prohibition of such arms would remedy the situation;

Convinced that it is the reponsibility of every sovereign State to contribute towards nuclear non-proliferation and to the removal of nuclear arms from the face of the planet;

Whereas many regions have already declared themselves "nuclear-free zones" by international conventions, such as Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, South-East Asia, Central Asia, the South Pacific, the Antarctic, and the Ocean Depths and Outer Space;

Hereby support the world ban on nuclear arms, and do hereby call upon the Belgian Parliament to pass, at its earliest convenience, a law prohibiting nuclear weapons on Belgian territory.
